The community has blocked entrances and exit routes to Munsieville as part of their protest against illegal miners.

The protest follows a violent clash between community members and police in Kagiso yesterday where one person was killed.

Currently, there is a strong police presence, and all seems peaceful in Munsieville.

Motorists have however been cautioned to avoid the area and make use of alternative routes.

Large rocks are obstructing the road on Robert Broom Drive towards Munsieville and Delporton. Sterkfontein Road is also affected, and reports have been received of rocks being thrown.

Residents are also burning tyres.

Yesterday, Mogale City Executive Mayor Tyrone Gray, said he believed the protests have been sparked by the recent gang-rape and robbery of a film crew who was filming a music video at a mine dump.

Scores of alleged illegal miners have since been arrested and appeared in court.
