R100 000 reward offered in search for missing Limpopo schoolgirl

Police are intensifying their search efforts for nine-year-old Fiona Matodzi who vanished in 2022 after leaving school in Itsani village.

Police in Limpopo have offered a R100 000 reward for information that could lead to the recovery of nine-year-old Fiona Mpfunzeni Matodzi, as well as the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for her disappearance.

According to Polokwane Review, provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says Fiona was reported missing on August 11, 2022, after she disappeared in Itsani village within the Thohoyandou policing area.

Police say Fiona was walking home from school when she was allegedly abducted.

She was last seen by fellow learners walking behind her, who told police they saw her getting into a black Volkswagen Polo without registration plates.

The occupants of the vehicle could not be identified.

“At the time of her disappearance, Fiona was wearing her school uniform. She never arrived home and has not been seen since. The family continues to appeal for assistance as they remain desperate for answers regarding her whereabouts,” says Ledwaba.

Police appeal to the public

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe has reiterated police’s commitment to pursuing all possible leads.

“We urge the public to come forward with any information, no matter how small it may seem. Someone out there knows something, and that information could be critical in reuniting Fiona with her family and ensuring that justice is served.”

How to provide information

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is urged to contact Colonel Lesiba Somo of the provincial Missing Persons Unit on 082 565 8238, the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111, or their nearest police station.

All information will be treated confidentially.
