LIMPOPO – A head-on collision along the R71 outside Tzaneen yesterday (December 27) has claimed yet another life.
The incident between a sedan and bakkie occurred along the R71 road near Lushof Lodge at around 10:30 on Monday.
Media liaison officer for the Department of Transport and Community Safety Mike Maringa says one of the injured passengers from the bakkie succumbed to their injuries upon arriving at the hospital.
This brings the total number of people who have died to five, he explains.
The R71 road between Phalaborwa and Tzaneen is still closed and motorists are advised to use the alternative DeerPark road.

LIMPOPO – A head-on collision between a sedan and bakkie claimed the life of four people on Monday (December 27).
The incident occurred along the R71 road near Lushof Lodge outside Tzaneen at around 10:30.
Media liaison officer for the Department of Transport and Community Safety Mike Maringa says the three passengers and the driver of the sedan were killed on impact.
“The driver of the bakkie and five passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Van Velden hospital and a private hospital in Tzaneen.”

Preliminary investigations reveal reckless driving as a possible cause of the accident.
The R71 road between Phalaborwa and Tzaneen is still closed and motorists are advised to use the alternative DeerPark road.
Limpopo Transport and Community Safety MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has sent message of condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the horrific accident.
“We plead with motorists to adhere to traffic rules, reduced speed and avoid unsafe overtaking,” she concluded.
