Railroad worth R1.5m stolen in Morgenzon, arrests made

The estimated damage to infrastructure is R1,5m.

The Hawks Serious Crime Investigation, based in Secunda, apprehended five suspects in Morgenzon on Friday, following a tip-off about the stealing of railway lines.

The suspects, aged between 27 and 56, were found loading railway lines onto two trucks using a tractor, front loader and a bakkie.

The estimated damage is R1,5 million. The suspects were detained and charged. They are expected to make their first court appearance in the Morgenzon Magistrate’s Courton Tuesday.

They are facing charges of damage of infrastructure, theft and possession of suspected stolen property.
