Rain leads to mayhem on Pretoria highways
There was a multiple vehicle pile-up in the pouring rain on the N14, Centurion around 07:00.
Numerous accidents were reported across Pretoria due to the rainy weather on Friday morning.
There was a multiple vehicle pile-up in the pouring rain on the N14, Centurion around 07:00.
“A (Ford) Fiesta crashed through the barrier into the centre median, ER24 emergency medical service said in a statement.
“Shortly after, a towing vehicle arrived before it was hit by a bakkie on the side of the highway. When an ER24 team arrived, a VW narrowly missed our ambulance rolling into the centre median as well.
“Around the same time, a BMW then spun out of control, colliding with the barrier and ending up in the slow lane,” ER24 said.
“An Amarok then managed to narrowly avoid being the 6th vehicle involved.
“Amazingly only two people suffered minor injuries, one from the tow truck and one from the bakkie which collided with it,” ER24 said.
Both were treated and taken to private hospitals for further care.

A truck and several vehicles were involved in an accident on the N1 south just before Lynnwood Road exit, said Rufus Engelbrecht of Emer-G-Med.
“Upon arrival on the scene, it was found that several people were injured. The injured patients suffered minor to moderate injuries and were treated on the scene,” he said.
Traffic was heavily backed up around 08:00.
“Another vehicle overturned near the N14 in Brakfontein where the patient was transported to hospital.”
Motorists were urged to be extra vigilant when driving in the rain as there was a greater chance of accidents in these weather conditions.
