Rape case against former IFP councillor withdrawn

Thulasizwe Khumalo was accused of raping a 14-year-old girl, and he was subsequently 'recalled' by his party.

The rape case against former Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) councillor Thulasizwe Khumalo has been withdrawn.

Khumalo appeared briefly in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court this morning, and the court concluded that the matter should be suspended until DNA evidence is available.

Khumalo had been accused of raping a 14-year-old girl, which led him to be ‘recalled’ by his party.

Out in the street, happy IFP supporters celebrated the decision. On the other hand, members of the ANC looked disappointed.

Speaking outside the court, Khumalo said he is happy with the outcome of the case, as it has been a very difficult period for him. He added that his community was struggling without him, but now his work will continue.
