While the motive has not been established, it is believed that unknown vehicles drove by and the occupants opened fire just before 22:00, killing the popular rapper and another unidentified person, understood to be a close friend of AKA.
According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson the two men were shot multiple times.
The first victim paramedics tended to, unfortunately, showed ‘no signs of life’ and was declared deceased on scene, he says.
The second victim was found inside the venue.
“He was in critical condition. Despite advanced life support intervention, the patient’s condition deteriorated, and he passed away at the scene,” says Jamieson.
In what would be his last post to fans, AKA took to Instagram on Friday to promote his upcoming album, Mass Country, scheduled to be released on February 27.
He was scheduled to perform at YUGO last night as part of a birthday celebration. Just hours before his death, AKA also posted videos on his Instagram page, showing happy scenes.
Provincial police have confirmed that they are investigating two cases of murder.
