Rescue team finds body in stream near Pretoria

The Tshwane water rescue team recovered the body of a man from a stream near the R80.

The body of a man was found in a stream near the Mabopane highway/R80 on Friday morning. Tshwane Emergency Services water rescue technicians recovered the body not far from the Hebron offramp after receiving a call at approximately 07:45.

Tshwane emergency services spokesperson deputy chief Charles Mabaso said the call informed the team that Tshwane metro police required assistance with what looked like a body of a deceased person in a stream near the highway.

“Upon arrival, the team of water rescue technicians launched a rubber duck into the stream and recovered the body of a male estimated to be 45 years of age,” Mabaso said.

“The deceased had bruises on his face and looked as if he had been in the water for more than a day.”

He said the body was handed over to the police who opened an inquest docket into the gruesome discovery.
