Reservoirs in Polokwane at 0% due to power failures along supply lines, says municipality

Most areas are currently experiencing water shortages and the municipality urges residents to use sparingly until reservoir levels improve.

Spokesperson for the Polokwane Municipality, Thipa Selala says power failures along main supply lines, since Wednesday, have had a negative impact on reservoir levels within the city.

“Both the Olifantspoort and Ebenezer supply lines have been down since yesterday and this downtime has affected reservoir levels, in particular the Potgieter, Krugersburg 50Ml, Krugersburg 30Ml Dome, Krugersburg 30Ml Flat and Seshego reservoirs, respectively.”

He explained that since this morning, the Olifantspoort plant was not pumping water to Polokwane and ‘reservoir levels are now at their lowermost’.

“This has affected all areas of supply within Polokwane Municipality.”

Selala added that water tankers will, in the meantime, be deployed to affected areas to provide temporary relief until normal water supply is restored and reservoir levels improve.
