Resident’s vigilance leads to arrest in Umhlanga

CCTV camera footage aided in the arrest of a suspected burglar who is also wanted in connection with a case of trespassing and malicious damage to property.

A house burglary suspect, who was identified by a resident, was arrested on Umhlanga Rocks Drive in Umhlanga, KZN, yesterday.

The resident saw the suspect on CCTV camera footage of a break-in on Stirling Crescent in Durban North, which occurred last Sunday.

The individual alerted Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre, which sent out an alert via a local WhatsApp Crime Alert Group.

“Armed response officers and members of our special operations team were immediately dispatched to the scene. The suspect matched the description from the CCTV footage, and he was immediately apprehended,” says Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell.

“The suspect had stolen valuable items and an undisclosed amount of cash from the property,” he adds.

The suspect is also wanted in connection with a case of trespassing and malicious damage to property which occurred in October on David Place in the Glenashley area.

Durban North SAPS is investigating.
