Road rage incident: Taxi driver shot in Gauteng
A truck driver has been arrested following the shooting of a taxi driver on Johannesburg’s West Rand.
A taxi driver is in hospital after a suspected road rage incident on Ontdekkers Road in Roodepoort, Gauteng.
“At this stage of the investigation, it seems as if it started as a road rage incident,” says SAPS Colonel Clive de Freitas.
He says it appears that a truck and taxi driver became involved in an altercation, which escalated as they travelled along Ontdekkers Road. It is believed that both vehicles had stopped and the drivers had climbed out of their vehicles when the taxi driver was shot.
De Freitas says the driver was taken to Leratong Hospital with a bullet wound to the left side of his chest. He was stable as they loaded him into the ambulance, but De Freitas says an examination will have to be done to determine if there is any internal damage, as the bullet is apparently still lodged in his body.
“We’ve taken the driver of the truck into custody and opened a case of attempted murder against him. We’ve taken the firearm in as well,” says De Freitas.
