Robbery suspect shot dead in Johannesburg

A case of armed robbery has been opened, along with another one of murder against the victim who shot a suspect during a robbery in Bezuidenhout Valley Park, Johannesburg.

Four armed men allegedly approached five male friends who were socialising in Bezuidenhout Valley Park and held them up on Monday night, North Eastern Tribune reported.

Constable Mpho Mashakane from Hillbrow Cluster said the armed men searched the victims, but one refused to be searched.

Mashakane added the robbers managed to take a wallet and four cellphones from the victims who were searched. The victim who refused to be searched handed over his cellphone and wallet.

A motor vehicle owned by one of the victims was parked a few metres from where the robbery took place, added Mashakane.

“While they were searching through the vehicle, the victim who had refused to be searched pulled out a gun and shot the robber who was carrying the firearm. The other three suspects fled the scene,” said Mashakane.

Mashakane added three shots were fired at the suspect. Paramedics declared the robber dead on the scene.

In a separate incident, a suspected robber was shot dead, while a police officer and another alleged robber were shot and injured, during an armed robbery in Marble Hall, near Bela Bela, Limpopo in January.
