Robbery victim shot at and stabbed near KZN airport

The perpetrator of an attack on a man who is in hospital recovering from his injuries is still at large.

A man was lucky to escape with his life after he was shot at and stabbed during a robbery near King Shaka International Airport in KZN yesterday afternoon.

The victim, a 37-year-old security guard, was walking along the M65 near the Dube TradePort Agri Zone when he was attacked by an unknown man just after 16:00.

The M65 connects both the N2 and R102 to the airport.

“Four gunshots were initially fired, but the victim was not hit,” says King Shaka International Airport SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer Valery Govender.

“The suspect then produced a knife and stabbed the victim in his head. He was robbed of his cellphone.”

The victim was taken to hospital where he is recovering from his injuries.

Govender warned against walking alone in the area and urged workers to travel in groups if on foot.

The perpetrator is still at large.

A case of attempted murder and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm was opened by airport police.
