SA Post Office extends mail service

International items are delivered within an average of 10 working days

The SA Post Office (SAPO) has extended its international reach, now sending mail to 46 destinations, as more transport connections have become available under the current lockdown level.

In a statement issued on Monday, December 13, SAPO said more surface mail destinations have become available since ships are not as severely affected by travel restrictions as are aeroplanes, however, surface mail is currently only available to the USA.

“Post Office customers must include their cellphone number with their address details so the delivering post office is able to send them an SMS when the item is ready for collection,” said the statement.

“Customers who are expecting an international item are requested to collect the item from their local post office when they receive this SMS.’

Mail is currently unavailable to Egypt, while airmail to Ukraine has become available.

International items are delivered within an average of 10 working days.

For a quicker service, the SAPO offers the Expedited Mail Service (EMS), which delivers items within 24 hours of arrival in the destination country.
