SANDF deploys 25 000 soldiers to KZN and Gauteng
The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has approved the deployment of 25 000 soldiers to assist in the unrest in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula addressed Parliament’s joint standing committee on defence yesterday (July 14) on the ongoing unrest in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
It was decided to deploy more soldiers to these provinces – from the 2 000 initially deployed to around 25 000. They are expected to report for duty today.
Furthermore, as directed by the Chief of the South African Army, Lieutenant General Lawrence Khulekani Mbatha, all reserve members have been called to report for duty at their respective units.

Acting Minister in the Presidency updates nation on security situation
The Acting Minister in the Presidency updated the nation about the security situation in the country.
She noted that many people were ‘panic buying’ for fears of an impending food shortage.
“We urge members of the public to remain calm and exercise restraint during these trying times.
“Government is working with the National Consumer Goods Council to ensure food security.”
