Sandton police officer killed at barber

The Sandton police officer was not on duty at the time of his killing.

An off-duty Sandton police officer was shot and killed while having his hair cut yesterday.

It alleged that the warrant officer stationed at Sandton Police Station was having his hair cut at a street barber shop on the corner of Keefe and Vangelder roads in Bramley View.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda, national SAPS spokesperson, “Reports indicate that an unknown man approached the officer from behind and started swearing at him before firing two shots. The officer was declared dead on the scene.”

Sandton Police Station’s commander Brigadier Egen Moodley sent his condolences to the family and friends of the officer.

Netshiunda added that a search for the culprit is underway but no arrest has been made as yet.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts is urged to contact the nearest police station or call the Crime Stop number 08600 10111. Alternatively, they can tip off the police anonymously on the MySAPS app.
