SANParks warns of booking scam

After becoming aware of a scam involving bookings, SANParks advised guests to use its central reservations system.

A suspicious activity and false advertisement about the Skukuza Safari Lodge in Mpumalanga have been brought to SANParks’ attention, the entity said in a social media warning on Tuesday.

In the warning, SANParks said guests are being directed to a non-SANParks website that requests guests to book for promotions at the lodge.

“This site also requests guests to pay via e-wallet or cash send. Please be advised that SANParks will never ask a guest to pay by e-wallet or cash send.”

SANParks advised guests to go via the central reservations for assistance to avoid being scammed while trying to book for the lodge.

Irma Green, Group Editor of Caxton Local Media, says the threat to local journalism has become more prevalent over the past two years.

“Even on a hyperlocal level we are experiencing an increase of events where our journalists are threatened, intimidated and withheld from reporting on stories in their communities. We do, however, act vigorously on these threats and haven’t shied away to address any of the threats made against us.

“It does have an impact on our journalists and their well-being as many of these threats are directed not only to them but also towards their families.”
