Police have confirmed that a 56-year-old man is in hospital under police guard after he allegedly shot his elderly parents, wife, daughter, domestic worker and himself yesterday.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo says the suspect’s elderly parents, aged 72 and 75, arrived at their Bredell, Kempton Park, home at around 11:30 to find their son, the suspect, was there.

“It is alleged that he fatally shot them.

“Both elderly victims were certified dead on the scene.

“The suspect proceeded to his home at Fairlands in Benoni where he then allegedly shot his 43-year-old wife, his 22-year-old daughter and 56-year-old domestic worker before turning the gun on himself.”

Masondo says paramedics certified the domestic worker and daughter dead on the scene while the wife was airlifted to hospital.

SAPS were also able to confirm that the suspect survived the suicide attempt.

“The suspect and his wife are in a stable condition in hospital.

“The police are investigating four counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

“The motive for the shooting cannot be confirmed at this stage,” says Masondo.

Reported earlier:

Security personnel, police officers and emergency services responded to two separate shooting incidents in Bredell in Kempton Park and Fairlands in Benoni yesterday.

It is believed that a man driving a red Toyota bakkie arrived at the first scene in Bredell, Kempton Park, ahead of two elderly residents, in a white Toyota Corolla.

“Shortly after their arrival at the premises several shots were heard and when police arrived they found the bodies of the two elderly residents in a room of the house,” says Kempton Park SAPS spokesperson Sargent Dipuo Ditshego.

“During preliminary police investigations, it was determined that the suspect who had fled the scene at high speed was a family member to the two deceased.”

The suspect then drove to another property in Fairlands, Benoni, where a second shooting took place.

The Kempton Express’ sister publication Benoni City Times was on scene at a house in Fairlands, where two women were shot dead.

The police confirmed that a 56-year-old domestic worker and a 22-year-old woman were shot and killed at this premises.

“It is believed that the suspect also shot himself and his wife at the Benoni property,” says Ditshego.

The suspect’s wife was airlifted to Netcare Alberton.
