Search enters 4th day for missing swimmer at uMdloti Beach
Rescue teams, assisted by aerial support, are continuing efforts to locate a KZN man who disappeared after being swept out to sea by a freak wave.
The search for a missing swimmer, presumed to have drowned in uMdloti, is continuing this morning (June 18) for a fourth day, reports Northglen News.
Bandile Ntaka was swimming with his friends on Monday afternoon (June 15) when they got into difficulty.
The 22-year-old was initially rescued by lifeguards but was then swept away by a freak wave minutes later.
Ntaka, from Mhlasini near Verulam, is presumed to have drowned, with recovery efforts spearheaded by Metro Police Search and Rescue Unit and SAPS Search & Rescue Unit.
The search has focused north and south of where the drowning took place with currents dictating search patterns.
Prem Balram, spokesperson for Reaction Unit South Africa, said at the request of the family they will assist with flyovers using the company’s helicopter.
They have also helped in recovery efforts.
Rescue officials have encouraged residents who spot the body to contact 10111 or the National Sea Rescue Institute’s emergency number on 087 094 9774.
