Several blue-light robbers arrested
Police also seized multiple hijacked vehicles, firearms, ammunition and police uniforms.
A total of nine blue-light robbers were arrested in a multi-disciplinary intelligence-driven operation on Wednesday.
This was after a team, consisting of officers from the Tactical Response Team, K9 unit along with the provincial serious and violent crime detectives and private security companies, followed up on information earlier this week about a group of people who were allegedly linked to a series of hijackings.
“The team operationalised the information and simultaneously pounced on the suspects in different places in Gauteng,” the police said, in a statement.
Upon arrival, police found and seized, among others, multiple firearms and ammunition.

Meanwhile, acting provincial commissioner Major General Girly Mbele commended the efforts of those who were involved in the operation and also expressed appreciation to private security companies for always availing themselves in the fight against crime.
Earlier in the week, three people were arrested in the Sinoville area after they were found to be in contravention of the Electronics Communication Act.
The trio, which was also charged with being in possession of car-breaking implements, was found in possession of electronic signal jammers.
