Shots fired in another spike trap on N4
“The driver kept on driving (with a damaged wheel) and reported hearing shots fired at his car.”
A motorist narrowly escaped being robbed and shot on the N4 highway on Monday night, in another spike trap case.
The motorist’s vehicle was damaged when it drove over spikes placed on the N4 East near the Donkerhoek bridge, said Cullinan CPF spokesperson Karen Yssel.
“Around midnight, the motorist drove over the spikes, which damaged his front wheel,” Yssel said.
“The driver, however, kept on driving and said he heard shots fired at his car.”
Luckily, he managed to avoid injury and kept on driving to the nearest point of safety.
Yssel urged motorists to avoid driving this route at night and also not to stop should they encounter spikes on the road.
“It is also very important that people report these cases at their nearest police stations,” said Yssel.
“Police do not follow social media reports. An official complaint must be made at a police station for a case to be opened and investigated.
“We cannot say that the police do nothing if we do not report the crimes.”
Yssel reminded that no police station may refuse to take a complainant’s statement.
“No complainant may be turned away, and if this happens they can demand to speak to the station commander or Vispol head.”
To report a crime, call the national Crime Stop number on 08600-10111.
