Siya: The hard work starts now

The rugby star reassured South Africa that his surgery was successful and that he is now preparing for the upcoming World Cup.

Springbok skipper Siya Kolisi has given an injury update after he underwent surgery on his injured knee.

The 31-year-old loose forward had an operation to repair a reported partial tear to his anterior cruciate ligaments as well as an injured meniscus on both sides of his knee, which may boost his chances of participation at this year’s World Cup.

He was honoured with a National Order of Ikhamanga award on Friday, but his wife Rachel was present at the awards ceremony in Durban to receive it on his behalf.

On social media on yesterday, the Boks and Sharks captain updated fans on his situation alongside a photo of him and his family in a hospital bed.

Kolisi is now in a race against time to prove his fitness in order to help South Africa defend the Webb Ellis Cup in less than five months’ time.
