Soccer player killed by lightning strike in Polokwane

A man was killed and another injured after they were struck by lightning in Seshego, Polokwane.

The Limpopo Department of Social Development have dispatched a team of social workers to provide psychological support to the family of a local soccer player who was killed by lightning on Tuesday.

Lesiba Ramabula (21) was walking with a friend in a park in Seshego Zone 1 when they were struck by lightning.

Spokesperson for the department, Witness Tiva, said both men were rushed to hospital and Ramabula was certified dead on arrival.

“We know the family is obviously going through a lot, as they lost a young man who is said to be a promising soccer star. Our social workers will also extend the same service to the survivor and other affected parties,” Nkakareng Rakgoale, MEC of the department said.

She also wished the survivor a speedy recovery.
