South Coast holidaymaker finds gun while metal detecting

While out metal detecting on Tuesday, a Johannesburg holidaymaker found a loaded gun in Southbroom.

After meeting a member from the conservancy while metal detecting on one of the beaches, Tienie Prinsloo decided to try the Bushbuck Trail near the tennis courts.

The gun was buried under a few centimetres of soil.

“About four metres into the trail, I got a signal and found a gun, which turned out to be loaded, buried under a few centimetres of dirt,” he added.

He tried to call the Southbroom Saps a few times, and after no reply, went to the station, however it was locked with nobody in sight.

While leaving, he saw a security vehicle, called their head office and ask for assistance.

A few hours later, they arrived with some police personnel who took possession of the weapon.
