Stage 4 and 5 load-shedding to be implemented in cycles daily until further notice
Capacity constraints are being made worse by delays in getting units back to service at various power stations.
Eskom has announced the load-shedding schedule for this afternoon and the rest of the week.
Starting from this afternoon, stage 5 load-shedding will be implemented daily from 16:00 until 05:00 the next morning. Then, stage 4 will be implemented between 05:00 and 16:00. This pattern will be repeated daily until further notice.
Eskom said it would publish another update as soon as any significant changes occur.
According to the power utility, breakdowns are currently at 18 144MW of generating capacity, while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 3 427MW.
“Over the past 24 hours, a generating unit each at Arnot, Camden, Kendal and Palmiet power stations were returned to service. In the same period, a generation unit each at Matla and Tutuka power stations were taken out of service due to breakdowns,” Eskom said in a media statement.
“Further, the delay in returning to service a unit at Arnot, Hendrina, Kendal, Kriel, Lethabo, Matimba, Tutuka, and two generating units at Camden power stations continues to add to the current capacity constraints. The team is working tirelessly to ensure that generating units are returned to service as soon as possible.”
