Stage 4 load-shedding to be implemented at 16:00

The power utility says that stages 3 and 5 power cuts will be the order of the day until significant changes in the system are noted.

Eskom has announced that stage 4 load-shedding will be implemented later this afternoon.

From 16:00 to 05:00 tomorrow, stage 4 power cuts will be in effect followed by stage 3 load-shedding between 05:00 and 16:00 tomorrow.

Thereafter, stage 5 load-shedding will be implemented from 16:00 tomorrow until 05:00 on Tuesday.

Eskom spokesperson Daphne Mokwena says from tomorrow until further notice, load-shedding will alternate between stage 3 (05:00-16:00) and stage 5 (16:00-05:00).

A total of 16 486MW of generating capacity is currently unavailable due to breakdowns, while a further 3 817MW is offline due to planned maintenance.

“In the last 24 hours, a generation unit at Duvha Power Station was taken out of service due to breakdown. Furthermore, the delay in returning units to service at Arnot, Camden, Kendal, Tutuka and two generating units at Hendrina power stations continue to add to the current capacity constraints.

“The team is working tirelessly to ensure that generating units are returned to service as soon as possible. We thank those South Africans who do heed the call to use electricity sparingly and efficiently, including switching off geysers from 17:00 to 21:00, in helping to alleviate the pressure on the power system and avoiding higher stages of load-shedding,” its statement concludes.
