Stages 4 and 5 load-shedding be implemented this week

These higher stages will be in effect at different times throughout the day until further notice.

Eskom is set to implement varied stages of load-shedding for the rest of the week as generating capacity loss has hampered its planned schedule.

The power utility initially planned that only stage 4 power cuts will be in effect, but further generating capacity loss resulted in Eskom escalating to stage 5 from 16:00.

This stage will remain in effect until 05:00 tomorrow when it will be downgraded to stage 4.

Stage 4 power cuts will be implemented daily between 05:00 and 16:00, and stage 5 every day between 16:00 and 05:00.

Generating capacity loss is currently high as 17 622MW is unavailable due to breakdowns and a further 4 659MW is offline due to planned maintenance.
