Suspect arrested after attacking KZN couple with a panga

A joint law enforcement operation has ensured that a suspect is behind bars following an attack on two people who suffered serious injuries.

A suspect was arrested days after a couple was attacked with a panga during a home invasion in Lennoxton in KZN last Friday.

Imran Ghafoor from Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team says the attack occurred at 17:30.

“The suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash and cellphones.

“The couple suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital,” he adds.

The task team received information about the whereabouts of the suspect on Monday afternoon and launched a joint operation with the Newcastle Stabilise Unit and Newcastle Community Service Centre to apprehend him.

A safe house was identified in the Blaaubosch area and the suspect was arrested and detained, says Ghafoor.
