Suspects nabbed for Mpumalanga armed robbery
While four suspects have already been arrested following a robbery and shooting at a supermarket, law enforcement is confident that the other suspects will also be caught.
Four suspects linked to a business robbery and attempted murder at Tubatse Superspar in Burgersfort, located on the border of Limpopo and Mpumalanga, were arrested immediately after the crimes were committed.
The suspects were arrested on the R36 in Ohrigstad on Monday at about 20:00, with assistance from the Ohrigstad Farm Guard and Limpopo SAPS.
“About 10 heavily armed suspects wearing balaclavas allegedly entered the store at about 19:20, held the staff up at gunpoint, and robbed them of an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes from the kiosk. They also fired shots at the security officer, who was responding to the robbery, before fleeing the scene in a white Nissan bakkie NP300,” says Limpopo SAPS spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
The security officer was injured and was taken to Dilokong Hospital for medical attention.
The suspects, between the ages of 18 and 45, were arrested on charges of business robbery and attempted murder. The other suspects evaded arrest.
During the arrest, two firearms and some cigarettes were recovered.
Acting police commissioner Major General Jan Scheepers welcomes the arrests.
“These criminals have no place to hide; they should face the full might of the law,” he says.
The suspects will appear in the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court soon.
More arrests are expected. Police investigations continue.
