Teen sisters raped, parents shot during house robbery

Cases of murder, attempted murder, rape and house robbery are being investigated after a family was brutally attacked at their home in Winterveldt, outside Pretoria.

Acting commander of the Loate Police Station Colonel Jan Nkomo said an armed robber broke into the family’s house at about 2am and proceeded to shoot and kill the father before shooting the mother in the stomach, Rekord North reported.

The suspect then allegedly raped their two teenage daughters, aged 15 and 16. He finally stole some valuables from the house and fled.

Nkomo said two police officers who were patrolling the area received a message via radio control that three gunshots had been heard in the area.

“The police officers proceeded to the address. When they got there, they found the girls’ father had been shot in both shoulders, and their mother was shot in the stomach, also lying in a pool of blood,” said Nkomo. The traumatised girls were reportedly crying uncontrollably.

More police backup and paramedics were called and declared the father dead on the scene. The woman was then rushed to hospital, where she was admitted and placed in the intensive care unit.

“The suspect is at this stage still unknown, but police are following leads,” said Nkomo.

In December last year, the high court in Durban sentenced a 22-year-old man to two life terms for rape, murder and robbery.

Thulani Mlungisi Khanyile was sentenced to life imprisonment for rape, life imprisonment for murder and 20 years for robbery, after he robbed and subsequently stabbed Delyn Louw to death in KwaMashu in 2013.

A woman who was with Louw was robbed of her wristwatch and taken to a nearby vacant house where she was raped, police said.
