Ten more July unrest instigators appear in court

More July unrest instigators appeared at the Durban Magistrates' court, bringing the total number to 45.

Ten more people appeared at the Durban Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday with regards to last year’s July unrest which took place in parts of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

According to NPA Regional Spokesperson, Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, Dudu Gama-Kubeka, Nkululeko Zulu, Dumisani Mtshali, Bongani Mthembu, Belecia Zwane, Ayanda Magadulela, Vuyo Mayekiso, Bogadi Maphisa, Bonginkosi Mkhalipi and Kevin Nkhololo all face charges of conspiracy to commit public violence, incitement to commit public violence and incitement to commit arson, relating to the acts of looting and public violence that took place in July 2021.

This brings the total number of people that have appeared thus far, to 45.

Court proceedings

“Bail was set at R3000 each, on condition that the suspects do not post any information regarding the case on social media, and that they inform the investigating officer should they wish to leave KZN or should they change their residential address and or their contact number,” said Ramkisson-Kara.

She added that the matter was remanded to 30 November 2022, for further investigations.
