Ten suspects appear in court after Rosettenville shootout

The suspects are being charged with numerous crimes, including eight counts of murder.

Ten suspects appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday in connection with the deadly shootout that occurred in The Hill near Rosettenville earlier this week.

The police said the suspects are being charged of eight counts of murder, attempted murder, the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, the possession of explosives, the possession of hijacked vehicles and conspiracy to commit a cash-in-transit (CIT) heist.

Brigadier Thandi Mbambo said they were part of at least 25 suspects who were accosted during a crime intelligence led operation.

“Their alleged plans to commit a CIT robbery were intercepted by a multidisciplinary team lead by the National CIT Task Team in Moffatview, in the South of Johannesburg.”

The suspects were identified as Sihle Mazibuko (35), Qaphela Ngubeni (33), Menzi Shabalala (47), Hloniphani Dube (40), Alex Matshebele (40), Phendula Mvubu (44), Mike Ngwadi (47), Andrew Tshobolo (67), Khulekani Nkosi (36) and Kitso Mnguni (45).

The case has been postponed to March 3 for the verification of their addresses as well as a legality confirmation by the identified foreign nationals, as some of the suspects are Zimbabwean.
