Thabo Mbeki lashes out at Jacob Zuma

The former president pulled no punches and said Jacob Zuma was directly involved in capturing the state.

Former president Thabo Mbeki has become the latest senior ANC member to criticise former president Jacob Zuma.

Zuma is currently under attack within the ruling party following his decision to align himself with a rival organisation, the Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) party.

Speaking during the ANC lekgotla yesterday — an extended leadership meeting that sets the tone for President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address scheduled to take place next week — Mbeki blamed Zuma for the bulk of the problems currently faced by the country.

“He [Zuma] was directly involved in capturing and taking over SARS, and subsequently Eskom. He took over the process of destruction — him and Tom Moyane [the former SARS commissioner] and aggressively so,” Mbeki said.
