The latest on Covid-19: Some vaccination sites closed due to unrest
This week, South Africa has seen record registrations in the 35+ age group, while some vaccination centres have been temporarily closed amid continued protests and looting.

In a week marred by violent unrest and looting in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, the Department of Health says the national vaccination programme continued as usual across most provinces, with vaccines being safely distributed to operational sites. However, due to the unrest, some vaccination sites had to be temporarily closed because of risk factors and damage.

As of Thursday, the total in-hospital patient admissions were 9 063 (3 429 for the public sector; and 5 634 for the private sector).

Ages 35โ49 can now register

Acting Minister of Health Mmamoloko Nkhensani Kubayi tweeted that the 35+ cohort had broken a record, with over a million registrations in less than 24 hours. This after the vaccination registration for people aged 35โ49 officially opened on July 15.

Tshwane Mayor Randall Williams has pleaded with residents to stick to Covid-19 precautionary measures, as the metro registered a drop in the number of Covid-19 active cases. The slight decrease in active cases comes after weeks of record-high figures.
