Although there has been a significant decline in new infections in most provinces – and a welcome increase in vaccination numbers, people are urged to remain vigilant and not to fall for false vaccine news.

Latest Covid-19 statistics

As of August 6, the total number of Covid-19 cases in South Africa stood at 2 511 178, with 13 652 new cases having been reported. Recoveries were at 2 280 490, while an additional 479 new deaths brought the total number of deaths caused by the virus to 74 352.

More than 8m vaccinations administered

The vaccination programme is steadily gaining momentum, with the country this week crossing the 8-million vaccines administered threshold.
