Thembalethu police arrest woman after fatal shack fight

A 43-year-old suspect is expected to appear in court following a deadly early-morning confrontation in George.

A 43-year-old woman has been arrested following the death of a 35-year-old woman in Thembalethu, George, during the early hours of today (July 12).

George Herald reports that according to Southern Cape police spokesperson Warrant Officer Chris Spies, Thembalethu police responded to reports of a fight in 21st Street, Zone Seven, at about 02:00.

Officers found the body of a 35-year-old woman inside a shack. She had sustained multiple open wounds to her head and face. Paramedics declared her dead at the scene.

Court appearance

Police launched an investigation that led to the arrest of a 43-year-old woman in connection with the incident. The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to appear in the Thembalethu Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder on Tuesday (July 14).

The motive for the attack has not yet been established. The police investigation is ongoing.
