Three arrested after farm attack in Vaal Marina

Three suspects were arrested during a high-speed car chase as they were fleeing from a farm attack scene. They will be charged with several crimes, including attempted murder.

Police say a group of armed suspects were arrested in the Vaal Marina area following a farm attack on Sunday.

Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, police spokesperson, says they were alerted of a robbery in progress on a plot near Heidelberg.

“Police were joined by private security companies Including Midvaal Peace Officers, Afriguard, VR Security and members of the Community Police Forum (CPF) as they responded to the attack.”

On arrival, the team spotted three armed suspects driving the victim’s Ford Ranger bakkie in the R549 direction of Vaal Dam.

“A high-speed chase resulted in the suspects’ vehicle losing control and driving through the fence into another farm.

“All three suspects aged 24, 27 and 31 were cornered and arrested. The suspects were charged with house robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms, attempted murder, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and possession of the suspected stolen property.”

Masondo states that members recovered two unlicensed firearms, cellphones and an undisclosed amount of money suspected to have been taken during the house robbery.

“One of the suspects was taken to hospital, under police guard, after he sustained injuries in his foot as he was trying to escape.”

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, commended the speedy response and collaboration between the SAPS and private security companies.

“Police in Gauteng remain committed to dealing with farm attacks and other forms of house robberies.”
