Police in Limpopo say three men were arrested in connection with the murder of mayor Moses Maluleke and the attempted murder of his teenage son.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo says the suspects, who are between the ages of 30 and 50, were arrested during intensive police investigations that commenced after Maluleke’s murder on July 21.

Maluleke, who was mayor in the Collins Chabane Municipality, was shot and killed outside his home during an attack in which his teenage son was injured.

The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the team for the arrest and thanked the community for their assistance in the fight against crime.

“The suspects face charges of murder and attempted murder. Police investigations continue,” Mojapelo says.

The three suspects will appear before the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
