Tip-off leads to arrest of 4 business robbery suspects in Germiston

Police issued a lookout for a Mercedes-Benz after receiving information that the men inside the vehicle were planning a robbery in Primrose.

Four men were arrested in Germiston on Wednesday after Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) officers acted on a tip-off, seizing guns and ammunition during an operation to prevent a suspected business robbery.

The men, aged between 30 and 56, were found in possession of two unlicensed firearms, reports Germiston City News.

According to EMPD, Community Liaison Unit officers received information from a reliable source that four armed men travelling in a silver Mercedes-Benz were allegedly on their way to commit a business robbery in the Primrose area. Officers immediately issued a lookout for the vehicle.

Police later spotted the vehicle on Shamrock Street. When the occupants noticed the police presence, they attempted to flee, but officers intercepted the car at the corner of Shamrock Street and Churchill Avenue.

A search of the vehicle uncovered a Glock 17 pistol and a CZ firearm, both with obliterated serial numbers, along with ammunition. None of the suspects could provide a valid explanation for possessing the firearms.

The four men were arrested and detained at the Germiston Police Station. They face charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.
