Tragic Hoedspruit shooting leaves 3 dead, 1 injured
A domestic dispute ended in tragedy when a man killed two family members and then shot himself.
A 45-year-old man shot and killed his wife (44) and her sister (36), and wounded another sister-in-law (34), before turning the gun on himself in the Hoedspruit policing area on Saturday afternoon.
Letaba Herald reports that the two women were killed instantly.
According to a statement from Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, police on patrol received a report of a shooting in Mabins B village and rushed to the scene.
On arrival, they were met by the victims’ brother, who pointed out the two lifeless bodies of his sisters, both with multiple gunshot wounds.
“The suspect arrived at the victims’ home, parked his vehicle outside the yard, and opened fire on the women. During the attack, the 34-year-old sister-in-law tried to flee but was shot in the stomach. She was later taken to a local hospital for treatment,” he says.
Suspect found dead at home
After the shooting, the suspect reportedly left the scene and was later found at his residence, where he had shot himself.
The motive for the shooting is not yet known, and police investigations are ongoing.
Commissioner condemns violence
Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe condemned the incident, urging community members to resolve domestic issues peacefully rather than through violence.
“Domestic-related problems should be discussed and resolved amicably rather than engaging in] violence, as innocent lives are unnecessarily being lost.”
