Truck driver’s erratic driving leads to 2 arrests in eMalahleni

Alleged hijackers were arrested after a brave driver's smart thinking resulted in police coming to his aid.

A man is grateful for his life after being hijacked this afternoon, with two suspects arrested and others fleeing.

Two suspects were arrested in Mandela Street in eMalahleni, while others fled after police stopped a truck driver on the N4 for driving erratically.

“I was speeding and driving recklessly so that someone could notice and report my reckless driving,” says truck driver Simon Lebibi who survived an attempted hijacking earlier today.

He was transporting goods from Kempton Park to Mbombela when he was reportedly hijacked by an unknown number of men who allegedly told him to turn off on Mandela Street from the N4.

He added: “I’m left traumatised, as I’ve never been robbed before.”
