While on route to Mbombela ahead of a match against Mamelodi Sundowns, a bus transporting representatives of DStv Premiership soccer club, TS Galaxy, was involved in an accident on the Schoemanskloof road.

A bus carrying representatives of DStv Premiership soccer club, TS Galaxy, was involved in an accident on the N4/Schoemanskloof road earlier this afternoon.

The bus collided with a Volkswagen Polo. The Polo driver was killed in the accident.

It is believed that the TS Galaxy bus was travelling to Mbombela ahead of their DStv Premiership clash with Mamelodi Sundowns tomorrow night at Mbombela Stadium. Efforts to get comment from team management were unsuccessful.

According to Martin Jeffrey of Emer-G-Med, they received reports of an accident involving a bus and a passenger vehicle at 12:45. Upon their arrival at the scene, Emer-G-Med paramedics found a single occupant in the VW Polo. “She was declared dead on the scene by paramedics,” Jeffrey confirmed.

The Volkswagen Polo collided head-on with the bus and the driver of the Polo was killed.

Jeffrey indicated that paramedics further assessed the occupants of the bus transporting representatives of TS Galaxy, and found that none of the occupants of the bus had sustained injuries.

Solange Soares of TRAC N4 confirmed that it was a head-on collision, with the Polo travelling westbound towards Pretoria/Johannesburg while the TS Galaxy bus was travelling eastbound towards Mbombela. “We’re unable to confirm the cause of the accident at this stage, but we can confirm that the eastbound lane has been closed.”

Motorists were advised to make use of the N4/Elands Valley road and to avoid the N4/Schoemanskloof road.
