Tshwane metro police officer shot and killed on Christmas Eve
An investigation into the murder of a metro police officer in Pretoria West is underway.
The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) is reeling over the recent loss of one of its members, who was shot and killed, allegedly by her partner.
The TMPD officer was shot and killed at her home in Lotus Gardens, Pretoria West, on Christmas Eve.
TMPD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba says the suspect fled the scene after the shooting.
“It was established that the suspect fled the scene using the victim’s vehicle and headed to Limpopo where he was later apprehended.
“The exact details leading to this tragedy are unclear and the case is currently being investigated by the SAPS.
“The identity of the deceased TMPD member cannot be disclosed at this stage until we are certain that the family and relatives are formally notified,” Mahamba says.
The acting chief of police, Deputy Commissioner Nomsa Nhlapho, extended her sympathy to the victim’s family, friends and colleagues.
She urges the public to allow the legal process to take its course in seeking justice for the victim.
“The TMPD stands together in solidarity during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of our departed colleague as they navigate through this profound loss,” Mahamba says.
The details of the memorial and funeral services will be communicated in due course.
