Two arrested for kidnapping baby

The police in Boksburg apprehended a man and a woman in connection with the kidnapping of a baby earlier this month.

The police in Boksburg North arrested a man and a woman in connection with the kidnapping of a 10-month-old baby on April 14.

According to Boksburg North police spokesperson Constable Justice Ramaube, police were told the mother left her son with her friend in Boksburg North that day so she could buy nappies.

“When she came back, her friend told her her son had been fetched by a woman and man whom she did not know,” said Ramaube.

“She described what the woman was wearing at the time but did not answer the mother’s further questions, which is why she went to the police for help.”

A kidnapping case was opened and all role players were activated to form part of a team to find the child.

A few hours later, the child was found in Bredell in Kempton Park with a 39-year-old woman and 32-year-old man.

Captain Francois Zylstra and Warrant Officer Gideon O’Neill arrested the suspects.

The motive for the kidnapping is unknown and the docket has been handed over to Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigations.

At the time of publication, it was unclear when the suspects will appear in court.
