2 businessmen killed in Mpumalanga drive-by shooting

The police are investigating an incident in which two men died, and another was shot in the leg, after being chased by gunmen.

Two well-known, high-profile businessmen from Delmas in Mpumalanga were killed, and a third man was critically wounded, in a drive-by shooting yesterday.

The incident happened at around 15:00 on Stoffberg Avenue, between Sundra and Persida.

Simon Mathe, Bongani Msiza, and another man were seen in a Jaguar SUV, driving at high speed in the direction of Springs, with a silver vehicle short on their tail.

Msiza was driving and Mathe was in the back seat.

Msiza apparently tried to flee from the pursuers by driving into a nearby field, but the vehicle got stuck.

He was gunned down behind the steering wheel, while Mathe was shot dead in the back seat.

The third man, who was the passenger in the front seat, tried to run away, but the gunmen followed him and shot him in the leg.

He was taken to hospital and is, according to information, in a serious, but stable condition.

Sergeant Themba Tshabalala, the media spokesperson for the Springs police, confirmed the incident.

Tshabalala told Streeknuus that a case was opened at the Springs Police Station and that the investigation is ongoing.

The identity of the wounded victim is known to Streeknuus, but is being withheld because the police fear for his safety.
