Two dead and several injured in accident in Port Edward

A helicopter was called to take one of the seriously injured patients to a hospital for urgent care.

An accident in Port Edward last night claimed two lives and caused several injuries.

According to reports, a pedestrian was fatally injured, after which a secondary collision occurred.

The accident involved a police vehicle and a light duty vehicle. The police vehicle was apparently transporting people to a facility in Port Shepstone.

Glen Preston of Med-Evac Ambulance Service confirmed that two people passed away. Two people are in a critical condition and another two people sustained serious injuries. Others suffered moderate to minor injuries.

All patients were treated on scene before being transported by various emergency services.

A specialised Netcare 911 helicopter ambulance, with a team of emergency care practitioners, was activated by Med-Evac Ambulance Services to transport a person to a high care medical facility.

Preston said they commend the quick response and professionalism demonstrated by all the emergency services on scene.

“They urge all road users to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations, ensuring the safety of themselves and others,” he added.

A police report is awaited.
