Two dead bodies found near KZN Nature Reserve

The dead bodies of an elderly man and woman have been found near the Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal.

Kyle van Reenen from Crisis Medical said the two unidentified victims were discovered yesterday at about 10.30pm, Northglen News reported.

“Both victims sustained single stab wounds to the chest. They were certified dead upon arriving at hospital,” added Van Reenen.

It is believed the two victims were homeless. An Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife representative said homelessness had increased in the area in recent months.

“We are calling for additional police patrols, as this is a security risk – not only within the reserve but also for the community outside of the reserve. Our field rangers have been patrolling inside and outside the reserve and have noticed an increase in vagrants in the area where the incident took place,” he said.

In a separate incident, the dead body of a woman was found at the Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria in January. According to the monument’s managing director, Sonja Lombard, the woman, believed to be in her 50s, was found after a visitor discovered a handbag outside the premises.

“We sent our personnel to investigate where the handbag came from. They noticed a body on the lower level on the outside of the monument. Our project manager, who is also a senior paramedic, arrived and found the woman to be dead,” Lombard said.

She said it was unknown whether the woman jumped, was pushed or fell, but the scene was immediately secured from visitors. The dead woman’s car was also found on the premises, Lombard said. “No one saw what had happened.”
