Two killed in KZN shopping centre parking lot shooting

A man shot a woman multiple times before he shot himself.

A man and a woman were shot and killed in an alleged domestic incident on Sunday evening in the underground parking lot at Gateway Theatre of Shopping north of Durban.

According to Gateway marketing manager Michelle Shelley, the fatal shooting occurred just before 19:00.

“Gateway confirms the incident which took place in the centre’s parking area on Sunday evening. Preliminary reports indicate that a man approached a female known to him and fired shots before fatally wounding himself. Sadly, both individuals were declared dead on scene.”

“Domestic incidents of this nature are both tragic and traumatic. Our sincere condolences and thoughts are with the families. The incident is being investigated by the SAPS,” Shelley said.

KZN VIP Protection Services were one of two services that responded to the shooting.

In a statement on their Facebook page, the protection service said the scene had been cordoned off by mall security while paramedics rushed to assist.

“Sadly, nothing could be done and both patients were declared deceased on scene. We express our deepest condolences to the bereaved families,” the statement read.

Northglen News is awaiting comment from the SAPS on the incident.
