Two KZN hijackers die in crash

Two suspects died after the vehicle they allegedly hijacked plunged down an embankment in Shallcross, Durban, on Wednesday.

It is alleged that the hijackers stole a silver VW Polo near Chatsworth, then used the stolen vehicle in a hijacking in Shallcross, Rising Sun Chatsworth reported.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Cheryl Pillay said two suspects were found dead at the scene by officers responding to a reported hijacking,

The police officers were driving to the scene of the hijacking in St. Wendolins near Pinetown when they noticed the suspects’ car, which had rolled down an embankment.

One of the suspects was reportedly flung out of the car during the accident.

Pillay added that a 9mm pistol was recovered at the scene, while a hijacked Hyundai was found in the St. Wendolins area.

In a separate incident, two suspects were arrested after crashing a hijacked vehicle into railway tracks in Witpoortjie, Roodepoort, last month.

The two suspects were injured in the crash and later taken to hospital under police guard, while a third suspect fled the scene.

Police later found a firearm and a toy gun in the hijacked vehicle.
