According to emergency services, the house was totally ablaze when firefighters arrived at the scene.
Two women were hospitalised and two family pets were killed when a fire broke out and destroyed a family home in the east of Pretoria on Thursday morning.
Paramedics Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said two women, one in her 20s and the other in her 50s, were treated for smoke inhalation before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care.
He said two dogs were rescued by Tshwane emergency services; however, on further assessment, both pets were found to have sustained fatal injuries and were declared dead on the scene.
Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso said the incident was reported at around 06:07 and “the house was totally ablaze when firefighters arrived on the scene”.

The cause of the fire was unknown.
The Brooklyn family was not the only one to have their home destroyed by fire this year in the region. In Mamelodi, a family was left with nothing after a fire completely demolished their home on January 2.
Two families from Jeffsville in Atteridgeville were left destitute after their homes were gutted by fire on December 31.
